A keen sports enthusiast he is the founder and the brain behind the top of the line Polo Foundation and is also a competitive Horse Polo player who has played all over the world. On the social front, he is an active founder member of World Lung Foundation (WLF) crusading against Tuberculosis and promoting Lung Health. He was awarded "Padma Shri" (third highest civilian award) in 2013 by President of India. He was also conferred the "Young Scientist Award" by IMA in 1997; at Florence, Italy with the "Karl Styblo" award in 2000; "Dr. PRJ Gangadharam Award" from Kasturba Health Society and Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Health Sciences in 2005 and "Oration Award" from Tuberculosis Association of India in 2007. His continuing crusade against TB has earned him the prestigious "Princesses Chichibu Award" in 2010 at Berlin making him the only person in the world to have received the two most coveted international awards in the field of TB.
Widely recognized across the world for his landmark contributions in the field of TB, Tobacco and salt iodization, he started his professional carrier in 1969 from an urban slum of Delhi advocating "small family norm". Appreciating the community concern, he Suo moto started providing a comprehensive Family Welfare Programme in place of the then Government of India's Family Planning Programme. He has also been responsible for providing comprehensive health care to the inmates of Delhi's Central Jail (largest in Asia) and Mental Hospital and reached the position of country as the Director of India's Revised National TB programme.
With an experience of more than three decades in keeping his fingers on the pulse of the community helped him tailoring the implementation strategy of India's new TB programme to the felt and assessed needs of the country. The strategy thus formulated and successfully implemented in India, till 2016, has successfully screened 1 billion TB suspects out of which 20 million TB cases have been registered for treatment thereby averting almost 4 million deaths. He took voluntary retirement from GOI and joined WHO to carry India's successful TB control experience to other countries. In this connection, he has travelled to more than 50 countries across the globe. Today this strategy is the global TB strategy being implemented in more than 200 countries of the world.
While the present generation does not even know that the common salt being used in the kitchens of their grandparents was big crystals of bargara salt which beyond being Iodine deficient needed to be washed and crushed in the house. As Nutrition advisor in Ministry of Health from 1988-1994, he was instrumental in getting introduced the iodised salt in this country and also carried this successful experience through UNICEF to China.
As the founder President of World Lung Foundation - South Asia (WLF-SA) he conceptualized, formulated and implemented internationally acclaimed Delhi University Smoke Free Initiative (DUSFI) covering more than 300,000 students & carried out the same in over 100 Delhi Colleges of IP University and to all 1293 Government Inter Colleges of Uttarakhand. In collaboration with WHO and CDC- Atlanta, he has been the lead in carrying out Uttarakhand Youth Tobacco Survey (UYTS), the first of its kind in the country.

Footsteps of Nikitin (2006) commissioned by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India included following Nikitin's route for 45 days through Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran and India. Children of The Pyre (2008) - A critically acclaimed documentary feature film which got many international awards and was nominated at more than 30 international film festivals including Pusan, Liepzig, Amsterdam, IFFI Goa, Munich, Jerusalem & MOMA, New York. The film was market premiered by Fortissimo Films at Cannes, 2009.
The Film received the Best Documentary award at, Montreal World Film Festival, Canada 2008, Sao Paulo International Film Festival, Brazil, 2008, National Awards, India, 2008, IFFLA, USA, 2009, Asiatica, Italy, 2009, Indian Documentary Producers Association, 2009 and Best Documentary, EXTRAVAGENT INDIA in Paris, 2013.

At The Stairs (2011) - This film captures lonely moments and lifeless lives of three aged widows who have been waiting for decades to die in Banaras. Ironically, they live at a paradoxical venue, Manikarnika, the busiest cremation ground, where cremations never stop. More than 100 departed souls are cremated here every day.
The film received the Best Documentary Awards at: Best Editing, IDPA 2011, Golden Conch, Mumbai International Film Festival, 2012, Best short film, Signes Du Nuit, Paris 2012 and Best short film, NJISACF, USA, 2012

Our multifaceted expert from the hospitality arena is an alumnus of Delhi's top St. Stephen's College from where he graduated with honours in history and is also an alumnus of Cornell University. He began his journey with ITC in 1980 as a management trainee. He was Instrumental in the commissioning of ITC Kakatiya, Hyderabad; a property which he headed as General Manager for five years, he has also gathered extensive experience at the Sheraton hotels in Hong Kong, Bangkok and San Francisco. In 2000, he took charge of ITC Maurya, New Delhi, as Vice President and General Manager. He later moved to the Divisional Head Office to head a cross-functional team as Vice President - Operational Support & Quality. Till recently, as Executive Vice President - Pre-opening Services, he defined concepts for new hotel projects (Greenfield & Brownfield) and established new food & beverage brands, like Ottimo, Royal Vega and The India Room. Overseeing quality benchmarking, project completion and pre-opening operations with a filial allegiance to quality, he also supervised the Divisions Product Committee. As head of operations, he was a part of the core team (Sports marketing and operations) while working with Delhi Dynamos F.C. - (ISL for 3 seasons) for the last two editions. He headed the operations team, that looked into complete operations for the club, stadium operations, planning and execution of stadium Sportaintment, team operations etc. He was actively involved with the player development vertical (grassroots), responsible for setting up the first two academies for DDFC in India.
